Details of the Technology Offer

The technology is an innovative device that allows the spore culture of red seaweed (macroalgae). This device consists of a recirculation system that allows spore resuspension, so it can take advantage of non-settled spores. It also has a structure with automated movement to hold, tilt, and rotate support frames with culture racks. The system does not need to be operated outside water.

The device is intended to improve the settlement, substrate inoculation, and culture of red seaweed through spores, in contrast to massive vegetative propagation usually used for commercial culture. This technology is addressed to companies that are culturing isomorphic lifecycle seaweed, such as Gigartinales, Gelidiales, and Gracilariales, facilitating spore culture, which is currently made practically in an artisanal manner. The device shows the development of techniques and processes aimed at productive escalation and production.
