An Academic Partner is interested in Clostridium perfringens biofilms/bacteriophages/Biocides in commercial poultry meat. Clostridium perfringens is associated with necrotic enteritis (NE) in poultry.
Clostridium perfringens is associated with necrotic enteritis (NE) in poultry. The presence of pathogen biofilms in anaerobic organisms is very much under-researched. The group have studied biofilm-forming C. perfringens; the formation of biofilms protected C. perfringens isolates from the action of traditional antibiotics. C. perfringens grown in biofilm mode can dramatically reduce effective antibiotic susceptibility and alternative approaches such as bacteriophage technology should be sought. The group seek partnership to evaluate phage selectivity, characterise active combinations and test established biofilms with different numbers of specific phage, at different temperatures, in the presence of various food materials. They are also interested in approaching AMR bacteria in meat and meat products in general.
